Los Nevados is a beautiful village, set deep in the Andes and separated from Mérida by the highest mountains in Venezuela, Pico El Toro (4755m), Pico El Leon (4740m), Pico Bolivar (5007m). Accessible by foot, by horse, or by 4 wheels drive vehicle along an 'exciting' mountain road. Los Nevados is located at 2700m in the National Park Sierra Nevada and the temperatures are between 8 and 20ºC. It’s important to bring a high sun protection and a polar jacket. Enjoy the silence, the tranquility of the Andean life and the view on a mosaic of crops (Potatoes, Weat,Oat,Garlic…) on terraces carved on the side of the mountains.
This is the most popular mountain tour we offer, and with good reasons - in just 3 days you pass through 4 different climatic regions between 1600m and 4200m; you travel by jeep, on a mule, and by foot; you experience the traditional way of life of the Andean people; and all this without the strain of heavy packs and camping. This is a real mountain tour for (almost!) all the family.
Day one :
The tour follows a circular route, beginning with a 4 to 5 hour jeep trip on an 'exciting' ( narrow with sharp bends and steep inclines) road from Merida to Los Nevados via El Morro. In the afternoon it’s possible to do a small trek, visit the area or just rest in one of the hammocks. You will spend the night in Los Nevados at our POSADA GUAMANCHI, in a nice room with private bathroom.
Day two :
Mule ride in the morning through the typical vegetation of the Andes. After lunch, come back by jeep to Merida.
(When the cable car is working, it’s possible to go up on the second day by mule to the fourth station (Loma Redonda 4050m) and go down with the cablecar to Merida).
